The current gym on campus was built in 1916. Needless to say, it is a little outdated for it needs. The new gym, however, is very appropriate for its needs. Olympic sized swimming pool, indoor track, robotics competition areas, and everything else the modern tech school need to keeps its students fit. It’s also a very ‘green’ building as well. For example, on the roof is a solar hot water heating system for the pool which is maintained using rainwater stored in two 250,000 gallon tanks buried beneath the quad. I think the guide said those two systems alone will save $800,000 per year in operating costs.
They gave a tour of the building to all the graduating seniors, partly because it opens next year so we won’t get to use it, and also to show all the great endeavors our future financial gifts will go towards. They did announce however they will be providing memberships to alumni, for a small fee (of course). It’s not as if our tuition from the past fours years doesn’t count for anything.
