Jade Vine on Flickr.
I think someone forgot to tend to this plant for a few years. I had to duck when walking around it as the leaves are below head height and the flower were hanging almost down to my waist. It has also pushed it’s way through some cracks in frames of the room and is extending into the adjacent rooms on either end of the wing. I love this place.

Overwatch on Flickr.
I’ve got a bit of a backlog built up. Best to start from the beginning. There’s a gas terminal in the next town over. I walked past it a few weekends back as my family was taking a walk around the waterfront.
Timothy Schenck, a favorite photographer of mine, has a cool photo series involving tanks and containers. I meet him when we did the High Line Phase 3 photo walk last October before they started construction. I really need to reach out to professional photographers and get some advice from them on a number of subjects, maybe even get my photos critiqued a bit.

All Aboard! on Flickr.
The start of the morning commute. There was less than seven inches of snow this time so the train did in fact come.

Helping Hands on Flickr.
Walking around your neighborhood after a snow storm with a shovel is always a good way to make some money. Of course, it did help that the friend I went around with had an ATV with a plow on the front. Much more useful on the typical small driveway than a fully sized truck.

Train’s Late, Probably Not Coming on Flickr.
I headed out early this morning in an attempt to catch the first train into the city, if by some miracle they where actually running. I wanted to photograph the snow clearing work on the High Line. Alas, the LIRR had other plans.

Filling in the Cracks on Flickr.
There is a certain wild aspect to the greenhouses at the Planting Fields that I really like. You have all the well maintained plants and gardens and pots, but then there are all the little extras that snuck their way in. The gardeners allow them and even label some of them for curious visitors. There is a vanilla plant that probably once was in a pot but has now rooted in the ground behind a table and climbed up into the rafters and across the length of an entire room in the Main Greenhouse. A vine plant in the Camellia Greenhouse has grown to entirely cover a wall and pushed through an opening to start covering the wall in an adjacent room.

What better way to spend a cold winter day is there than roaming around in the Main Greenhouse of the Planting Fields Arboretum. Happy New Years Eve everyone.

There are some nice trails through the forest behind the local library. I took advantage of this fact during the one of the recent snowstorms.

Poles in the Snow on Flickr.
Long Island is a very busy place and people are always moving about so it’s never really completely quiet and peaceful. There is always that one little hum of life or an engine somewhere. Except the day I took this photo.

My name is Oliver Rich, a 22 year old photographer that needs to get out more. Usually you can find me in New York, either out on Long Island or in the city so expect most of my source material to be coming from there. As for a main subject that I shoot, landscape is probably the word to use. Although, I very much like shooting other subjects such as fashion, concerts, sailing, various social events, the occasional gaming conference, and light painting.
